I really hope you, IA poster, come back to check the comments on this post.

You cannot equate a person who has moved here with land development, RE: "we watched you buy up those parts and turn them into condos." That is a false statement. It is the same anti-transplant rhetoric that has been perpetuated over the years and it totally negates accountability for the local housing commissions, city of Portland, Mult. County etc, that are providing land grants and permits to urban developers and local construction companies. Once more, you also need to consider the fact that most people from those states are used to being able to purchase a home half, or quarter, the price of a PDX home (current market). If you bothered to discuss the matter with them, they would tell you they are alarmed by the housing prices. I would know, I am a native, but moved back here from Louisiana. It is not the case that people are selling in home-town and buying up Portland/metro property. It is the other way around. They are selling 150,000 4 bedroom homes and coming here to purchase a condo, because that is all developers are building in the price range they can afford.

Also, shame on you for stereotyping an entire culture / geographic region in regards to the election. Odds are, if they moved to Portland, they are progressives to some affect. Telling them to move back as some form of 'be accountable for your people' ploy is no better than a racist telling a Hispanic person to go home. Please really consider this paragraph in those regards and learn from that.

sincerely, a person who left, learned from another culture, and is obviously better for it.

People should think about this and not just get defensive.

Maybe the original poster could move to one of those red states to cancel out the effects. BONUS: they could probably afford a pretty sizeable house in Arkansas compared to what you can get in Portland for the same price!

bla bla bla bla bla. Another disgruntled PBR tosser. Get a clue.

Please wait...
