I'm a black woman born and raised in Portland. I honestly never felt any racism until recently and almost everyone I was raised with live here still. Portland was super diverse in the 80's and 90's. So since your not from here and those that recently moved here in the last 2 years brought that energy.

My family goes back there generations. Five if you count my step dad. I’ll be the first to admit that we were not the first people to the area and I’m under no illusion that we’ll be the last. But when I asked the guy leaning on his horn behind me where he was from, I confess I told him to go back to New York until he can learn to chill out.

Hey IA, can you give another go at articulating your point? I'd love to converse over this, but then I re read your post and I can't actually pin what you're trying to say? Natives are racist? Is that all?

Displacement has been happening since the beginning of time. Invest in your education. Work hard. Save money. Invest in property vs renting. Look, it was only a matter of time before Portland followed the other booming economies on the West Coast. It's not fucking rocket science. People want to live close to the mountains and beach and Canada and ++++++++++. How do you think REAL natives felt when they were displaced. I actually think it's offensive to call yourself a native just because the cozy hospital bed you spent your first waking moments in was in the Portland boundary. Let's make a rule, spoiled Americans. You can only claim native to a region if a Shaman cut your umbilical cord with a bone knife.

Just to add, yes - there are many racists who claim the are Portland natives. Sell your fucking truck! You work at Best Buy and spend 10 hours a day playing World of Warcraft in your moms basement. OK you like to hunt and shoot guns, etc. Good for you. A real winner. Can you not go hunting in a hybrid? Throw that fucking carcass on top of a Prius, like a real gangster.

Please wait...
