Every once in a while I remember that Twitter still exists and that I have an account on there. So I log in. What do I see? 90% of it goes like this:

- An impassioned rebuttal to "This tweet is unavailable."
- A snarky jab at "This tweet is unavailable."
- Righteous indignation towards "This tweet is unavailable."

These are all replies to the latest emissions of @realDonaldTrump, whom I'd blocked years ago, before he was a candidate. Because even reading that shit accidentally feels like killing brain cells, but without any of the fun of the drugs I use for that purpose. I check out Trump's page and see that so many of my friends, none of whom are actually supporters of Trump, are following him.

What the fuck people? Do you think he gives a shit about your criticisms? Of course he doesn't.

What Trump *does* give a shit about though is his number of followers and retweets. And there, "all news is good news." If he tweets some outrageous bullshit (just imagine), and 20,000 liberals spend their time writing OUTRAGED TAKEDOWNS of his tweet, all he sees is that he just got 20,000 re-tweets! Which means 20,000 people bothered to ingest whatever he just put out there, and then spread it to their network in turn, reaching many thousands more. So you just did him a solid! Good job!

This same pattern played out in real media too. Trump rode wave after wave of controversy to the whitehouse because people kept giving him a platform. And continue to, to this day.

So my suggestion? Block TMFA.

And follow @OregonZoo instead. They are just the cutest.
