All IA does is give miserable and plain people a platform to seek out attention for otherwise everyday, commonplace lives, then makes it look ever so fascinating and poignant because it is publicized. It's just a news story for the masses that anyone can have a spot to be in the Merc.

FYI, nothing behind the arts tax or funding arts education for K-5 students implies the intent to steer children toward an arts-based career. They'll have another 7 years of public education not including another 4-7 in college to make that decision for themselves and whether or not it's worth it. You're making a pretty big leap from letting 10 year old kids have music class to them growing up to be a broke artist - shitty stereotype anyways.
