What a rude post. Sorry no one gave Mr. or Ms. Transplant a medal for moving here because gosh, no one ever moves and the very fact that you moved is a huge accomplishment. And, congratulations on the incredibly original idea of watching Portlandia and then moving here with the hopes of dabbling in (insert fashionable hobby). And thanks for putting down the natives- no one born here has ever moved away and done something great.
You love the place but hate the people responsible for making the place nice.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

Watch out! You have triggered the natives that have not amounted to anything.

Good god will this ever end? PEOPLE MOVE PLACES THAT IS WHAT PEOPLE DO. CONSTANTLY BITCHING ABOUT PEOPLE MOVING TO WHERE YOU LIVE WON'T STOP IT AND CONSTANTLY BITCHING ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO BITCH ABOUT IT WON'T STOP IT. FFS WHO CARES?! THIS LITERALLY MAKES ME WANT TO HURT PEOPLE I AM SO SICK OF HEARING ABOUT IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. ENOUGH. THERE ARE ACTUALLY REAL PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD AND PEOPLE MOVING TO PORTLAND AND PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT PEOPLE MOVING TO PORTLAND PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT PEOPLE COMPLAINING ARE NOT REAL FUCKING PROBLEMS. PLEASE SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

The argument can be made that by moving to a place you love instead of fighting to make Wisconsin (or wherever) a place that you love, we have the awesome president that everyone loves right now.

This is hardly your fault as an individual as it's a more collective problem, but nobody is without blood on his or her hands. I am a loving God: As a native I can look the other way as long as you love the Blazers and the Seahawks.

^ How do you add an ocean within an hour drive from Wisconsin? I don't know the topography of Wisconsin, but I'm guessing the same can be said about mountains.

Some people moved here before Portlandia and didn't know a lick about the city until they drove down after a seasonal job in Olympic. Boo. Hoo.

Word up, I/A. The sad sack loser "natives" who complain are simply the ones who failed to do anything to keep up, whether it was a lack of intelligence, a lack of effort, or both. They are the ones perpetually fine with dive bars, crappy karaoke, and a generally meaningless and mediocre existence. Any native who enjoyed the phenomenally cheap housing prices for decades and failed to save up to buy their own piece of it gets no sympathy when they are priced out but still think they deserve to be here on a part-time job so they can pursue their shitty art or whatever.

I have too much I could say on this topic. I'll save it. What I will say though is next time you encounter one of these "Natives" in the wild, just ask them what school/s they went to. Have a good laugh when a surprising number of them tell you places in Gresham, Troutdale, Beaverton, and Tigard. Further, it's sad that the conversation has redefined what Native means in the community. We aren't talking about the fact that Portland has the 9th largest Urban Native population, or that over 380 Native tribes are represented in Portland. Nope. We're talking about white 30 years old griping at the bar about rent prices. Kinda silly.

@Doomtown LOL, seriously. When you travel to or live in another city, or go to college outside the state, and meet someone "from Portland," it's 90% guaranteed they actually mean Gresham or Hillsboro.

Portland was a shithole until more people moved here. The people who liked the shithole that it was will always bitch about it. But they are nearly outnumbered now.

Demondog - No, it's the other way around. When I moved here 31 years ago it was a nice, easy city to live in. It was easy to get a job, easy to find a place to live with reasonable rent. You could actually find a parking space on a weekend night within a block of where you were going. I'm not sure what you mean by "shithole," but it was the cleanest city I've ever lived in. That is, until now. Every year there are more and more homeless people on the street, at least partially due to unaffordable rents caused by the influx of new people moving here. More homeless people means more garbage on sidewalks and green areas. And the occasional pile of shit that doesn't come from dogs. I'm from out of state originally so I'm not pointing fingers, but Portland is definitely worse than it used to be. However, this is probably happening to many cities across the country as the population keeps increasing, and the people running the government and Wall Street pursue policies that prevent millions of working people from being able to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads.

Please wait...
