Portland Drawbridges and boaters



drawbridge openings over navigable rivers are subject to federal law. the city of portland has no control over the issue. u.s. code 33, sec. 499.


If it's for commerce I can see federal law protecting that. But for private pleasure cruises, people and cruise ship companies should pay out the yin yang for disrupting thousands of lives daily. Traffic is bad enough here!


...They could even use the revenue to ease up on fees and fines and stop giving everyone a panic attack when they have to park downtown.


it's maddening when some entitled dickoff can stop traffic because he needs to get his oversize bathtub toy past a bridge. unfortunately, federal law does not distinguish between commercial ships and pleasure boats. obstruction of navigable rivers violates federal law. it's been that way for many years.
