Kudos for writing a post so bad that I can't even tell whether you're bashing native Portlanders, you are a Portland native, or both.

You know, for every rare douchey "native" person I encounter, I also encounter 100 more genuine lovely ones. There are shitheads from every corner of this great earth. If you keep encountering them at such a clip, maybe the problem is you.

"Did you know that it's actually possible for someone to be born and raised in Portland?" Yes, because Portland natives keep reminding us of it on a daily basis. Never mind that if you're a native Portlander or native Oregonian, it means your family was in the Klan... wear that "Native" sticker proudly. P.S. I'm with No. 5: The tribes of the Grand Ronde likely have a good laugh at you calling yourself "native."

Words mean things people. One is a native of the area they're born in, by definition. If you're born in California then you're a native of California, a Californian. If you're born in Portland then you're a native Portlander, an Oregonian. If one is born in Rome, Italy then you're a native of Italy. Nobody can stop you from carpetbagging into and infesting the latest "hip" spot (Portland, for instance) however it doesn't mean the lifelong residents of an area have to accept you with open arms. To the contrary, you're part of the problem which is the degradation of quality of life for those who were here long before you washed out of California and infested the great NW. Deal with it.

^ I think it's dumb as hell to use native as a term to define where you were born. Just say, I was born in _. I'm from (whatever fucking city your living in at the moment).White people talking to other white people about being native is just sad.

^ Dictionaries and conventional use of the English language disagree with your “thinking”. Also, your racism is showing should you care.
