See Seattle for how widening I-5 did not help traffic congestion.

Better yet, see Los Angeles as the prime example of how widening roads does not help traffic congestion.

There are tons of studies and reports available that explain why widening highways does not relieve traffic congestion.

adding new lanes/roads is always sold as the solution to congestion. decades of experience have conclusively shown that it just isn't so. here's a good summary of the accumulated data: https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2018/09/citylab-university-induced-demand/569455/.
more road surface attracts more traffic. it's called induced demand.

Oh, hey! It's this guy's other IA on this topic. Hey, you should maybe consider spreading your bad ideas out over a couple of days, rather then posting them all at one. OP, I'm going to say you live in... Camas?

I didn't think Washougal had become that big of a commuter town yet. I still always think of it as a mill town. Kind of sad to hear that they're just another town full of German vehicles looking to clog the 205/84/5 corridor.
