I'm on the fence on this one. While I think everyone should be able to have a good time, and certainly dislike it if neighboring campers/outdoor-"enthusiasts" get upset with me, on the other hand I do dislike the occasional dipshit who has no courtesy. Take for example last summer, when our neighbor campers proceeded to pull a flat screen tv from their truck, set it up complete with surround sound speakers, and watch an action movie full volume at 10 pm when it's dark and we're trying to enjoy our fires. I mean, on one hand it's fucking hilarious and I applaud them, but on the other I really wanted bigfoot to come running out and shit in their ice chests.

context is everything. when i used to canoe in the boundary waters, anyone using a boom box or even talking too loudly would have heard from other campers and, sooner or later, a ranger. that's just not why people go to a wilderness area. the world is not your living room. i realize in these days of overly entitled narcissism it is an unpopular idea, but consider the context before you indulge yourself.

JEEEE-SUS. Even I have headphones -- over-the-ear, quite comfortable -- and I can teach you how to use them if technology is a baffling thing to you. Why does the whole campground need to listen to YOUR programming? Why are you afraid of natural sounds? What if you could -- just for 24 or 48 hours -- drop out of the playlist that class, race, and culture imposes upon your defenseless mind? What if you were just another person, camping at a campground, and not King of All the Music to Which All Subjects Must Be Subjected? Or why don't you just stay home?
