Also inherent to Southern white culture is the expectation that you be polite and considerate in public, while talking shit and discriminating in private.So long as you have a minimally plausible public explanation for your behavior (bonus points for biblical references), you can maintain the racist, misogynist status quo, and the media and any outsiders are vilified for pointing out that hypocrisy.

But the South landscapes are beautiful places. Lots of good forests to camp and hike, Rivers to raft, warm water to swim and fish in. SUNSHINE and that warm loving embrace of humid air! I love the South. Plus every time I visited it I was welcomed and treated warmly. Once a person of color told me he preferred the open racism of the South becausr there you knew who hated you and who did not. While up here in Portland the racists are hiding it and acting like they are your friends while really just wanting the blacks to stay in their place, which at the time was North Portland. Thanks to the passive white racist practice of gentrification and not paying people of color good wages or giving them good education opportunities it has changed. But we are better right because we hide or racism. Now you can't find good soul food like ribs and sweet potato pie in this town. So if you have never been to the South then shut the fuck up. Most of them are not racist folks, have better relationships and true friendships with people of color than your average PDX hipster. Politics sucks all over this country.

10 great job! You said eloquently what I was trying to! I have a small tablet and short time to post things so no long missives from me, but what you wrote is so true. The South sucks, the PNW with their passive aggressive defacto racism sucks. Or the South is nice but has it's issues and needs to grow and learn to live with respect for each other , and the PNW is nice but has it's issues and needs to grow and learn to live with respect for each other.
