Cell phones are ruining the live music experience. No longer, it seems, can you go to a show and watch a band without someone holding up a god damn cellphone in your face. Sure, maybe it means people are excited to see a band they love, but do you really need to capture a video that you’ll never watch, and in doing so ruin the vibe (and the view) for everyone behind you? What happened to just enjoying the experience? I went to a show the other night and this girl kept holding up her phone above her head, directly in my line of sight, to record videos. I kindly tapped her on the shoulder and asked her to stop, but she continued to do it because who cares about anyone else’s experience? I’ve seen others talk through whole songs, annoying everyone around them, only to take a bunch of pictures later - proof they were there, even though they barely paid attention. Please, for goodness’ sake, especially if you’re seeing a show in a smaller venue, put down your fucking cell phone and stop trying to impress your friends with a video of the band you saw - I’d really love to enjoy this music right here and right now, not in your Instagram story later.
