A few years ago Portland learned it had really bad air. Polluting factories and old diesel trucks were ruining the air in Portland. What was done? Nothing. Not by Governor Kate Brown, or Metro, or Ted Wheeler. They all acted like they would do something but they did nothing. Some lawsuits got small payouts to people. Now, Precision Castparts is due to be sued and there will probably be an equally small payout. Given their decades of pollution in SE Portland (they were named the biggest polluter in the United States in 2011 by one group) they should be fined at least 500 to 900 million dollars to be distributed to the people in the surrounding neighborhood. Anything less is a mockery of holding them accountable. And strict pollution rules should be put in place specifically for them and they should be monitored 24/7 for the rest of their existence. Anything less is shameless and a stain on an already stained state.
