I feel your pain. I am a white woman and my interactions with white people are making me hate to a degree I never thought possible. I am so sick of the denial, the flagrant racism and misogyny (and for me ableism as I am disabled), and even more so the outright pride in their repugnant and offensive behavior and beliefs.

I am also sorry that so many people refused to help you. I am a former New Yorker and I promise you I would have helped you had I been there (even in my wheelchair). And if I couldn't help you myself, I would call someone who could help you and waited with you until they arrived. My mom is 70 and fiercely independent, but if she needed help like you did that day, I would want someone to stop and help her.

We’re used to not getting helped and at times harassed. One time while eight months pregnant and out for a walk in my own neighborhood where I owned my home, and had what I thought was labor pains. I sat on the curb, and a woman came out and threatened me with her hose- saying she’d spray me if I didn’t leave. I am a professional and in no way a criminal. Sorry to hijack your story. I’m just saying that some p.o.c. are quick to help because they understand no one else will.

White people: Giving white people a bad name since forever.

I'm a firm believer in the single race: Human.

I think this may be a result of the simple phenomenon that the poorer a person is the more sympathetic they become to the plight of others. Not a firm rule but a sufficiently observable one.

White privilege in Portland as an economic edge predominantly favors minorities and the young toward empathy. The more we get the less we help strangers.

sad.

A white person asking for help is usually high on drugs. That's why. White people don't need help.

Similar thing happened to me when I locked my phone in a Car2Go. The most helpful people are not the white folks.
