If you need 20 feet of space behind the car in front of you, then you are probably not driving safely and should turn in your keys. Maybe put down the cell phone instead, or just be an alert driver with reasonable situational awareness, a skill that has died.

Yes, I'm the tailgating idiot that just wants to turn left but I can't because there are three cars stacked with 20 foot bubbles around them in a space that can hold 8+ cars, preventing the regular and efficient flow of traffic as it was intended. Nevermind the fact that stopping so early could actually cause the person behind you to rear-end you not because they are following too closely but because it is normal to expect the car in front to stop closer to the car in front of them, say 6 feet away or so. Must be common core math that's too blame.
