Amazon? Have a friend leave them on your porch? Oh forgot, hoarders don’t have friends

2

Have you checked Amazon for any of that stuff? And counting on your friends being more prepared than you is lazy. I would rather be the friend who can help my neighbor than hold my hand out.

3

Oh my bad. Get on back out there and buy everything now!

coronavirus is a northern problem. notice how australia doesn't give a shit?

@4 Australia actually DOES give a shit. "Consumer psychology experts say the behavior is "obviously irrational", and a clear example of herd mentality." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-51731422

People are overreacting. OP, where exactly is the OHA telling people to plan for a 2 week disruption of their lives? I must have missed it: https://www.oregon.gov/oha/PH/DISEASESCONDITIONS/DISEASESAZ/Pages/emerging-respiratory-infections.aspx

HAha @Christina Rae, I'm so confused- I agree it's both a panic and a necessary precaution. The globalized system malfunctions like this sometimes. Imagine if a huge pest wreaked havoc on the worlds breadbaskets.

The head of the World Health Organization said this: “Our message to all countries is: This is not a one-way street. We can push this virus back. Your actions now will determine the course of the outbreak in your country.”

But a lot of people in Portland seem to just carry on with their daily routine, insisting to everyone else that we don't really need to worry about it. Yeah, most people are not going to suffer the worst consequences of this illness, but it is selfish to not consider how your actions will affect everyone else.

It took a lot of effort in China to control the spread there. Some of it was perhaps a bit overkill. But it unsettles me to hear folks just shrugging their shoulders and figuring it won't be that bad if it spreads widely. Such a selfish act in a time of crisis.

@8 Which is odd considering the Oregonian is telling people they need to prepare as if COVID-19 is the zombie apocalypse (or, you know, a natural disaster like an earthquake).

https://www.oregonlive.com/health/2020/02/coronavirus-quarantine-kit-what-youll-need-at-home.html

Meanwhile Trumpty Dumpty is telling people the "Corona Flu" is no big deal and and the death rates are all fake numbers, so, you know, mixed messages create a lack of consistency in how people respond. In Portland people are going about their business. In Italy they've shut down the entire nation. In Seattle all the tech workers get to work from home while everyone else has to risk it.

It's interesting that you consider people going about their daily lives as selfish, because it's actually NOT selfish if they aren't sick. If people are NOT sick, going about their business (while washing their hands a lot) is EXACTLY what they should do.

They, 7, wrote “ Yeah, most people are not going to suffer the worst consequences of this illness, but it is selfish to not consider how your actions will affect everyone else”

Which could mean the selfish act of buying all/most/too much of the resources available.

I'll take mine with a lime.
