Do you know what it means to "sit shiva"? Are you chuckling about the name for the 7-day process of Jewish mourning? Has anybody recently told you to stifle yourself, asshole? Because they should have, someone certainly should have.

This isn't funny and it's also low key maybe high key anti-Semitic.

I actually read it as someone who might be mourning the death of a loved one and someone who is Jewish.

Grief affects people in different ways and some people will laugh inappropriately. Perhaps they are thinking about saying sitting shiva and it is funny to them because they actually are sitting shiva or they know someone who is. (And before I get trounced as someone who is anti-Semitic, I am not. Believe me or not, that is irrelevant).

I have, however, witnessed too many of my friends and my own mother, mourn their mothers, and every single one of them behaved differently and in many cases what others deemed "inappropriate" depending on the circumstances, their personalities, and the circumstances.

There are a lot of people dying these days and many people are not allowed or able to even mourn traditionally given all of the COVID restrictions.

In the words of the late great Jackie Mason, or rather Mel Brooks words spoken by Jackie

I was sittin' flickin' chickens
And I'm looking through the pickins'
When suddenly these goys break down my walls
I didn't even know them
And they grab me by the scrotum
And they started playing ping-pong with my balls
Oy the agony
Oh the shame
To make your privates public for a game!

My point is that a culture that has gone through centuries of inquisitions and holocausts, can deal with horror through comedy. Comedy uses stereotypes as a trope to engage their audience. Jewish humor acknowledges their trauma.

The decrying of political correctness in our culture shuts down any acknowledgement of trauma suffered by subsets of our own culture. We can't laugh at our trauma until it's acknowledged by all of us.

Carlin was wrong. Manners being called Political Correctness is fascism pretending to be profound thinking.

There is no such thing as political correctness. It was made up by people who prefer to be able to use racial and sexist slurs, ignore and/or deny the humanity of other people and other people's experiences, and to uphold and perpetuate white supremacist terrorism, misogynist patriarchal and heteronormative terrorism. People either exhibit basic human decency and treat others with dignity and respect or they are bigots. Bigots throw around the term "political correctness" because they believe equality is oppression and they can't be bothered to not be total fucking assholes.

The truth about "political correctness" is that it doesn't actually exist

"Politically correct" is a term we use to dismiss ideas that make us uncomfortable

Discrimination and safety are serious matters that actually do affect people's ability to participate in public discussion β€” yes, even more so than the degree to which people in positions of privilege have to hear arguments they dislike.

The phrase "politically correct" is a way to say an issue has no value

Political Correctness Is A Right-Wing Myth

With the entire continent engaged in some of the most polarizing politics seen in decades, everyone seems to have one thing in common: Everyone thinks people these days are too easily offended. But they aren't. They're no different than they've ever been. And, as for political correctness, it doesn't exist.

The vast, vast majority of political correctness in America is conservative, and itβ€˜s extremely dangerous.
