Extinction Rebellion seeks to end the genocide project that we, the consuming nations are engaged in. May 22nd Extinction Rebellion activists set up a blockage on the Morrison bridge which also serves as the main artery to the freeway, causing minor traffic delays in the area for 3 hours. Why would an environmental group risk bad publicity by disrupting the public on their daily routes? Because we are all complicit in a mass genocide project called "Net-zero by 2050". 2050 is too late. In July of 2020, Portland's city government declared a Climate Emergency, vowing to do better. Unfortunately, the plan they proposed was nothing short of a free pass for climate deniers. Net-zero by 2050, for those who don't know what this means, just means the problem isn't getting worse in 2050. When we arrive at net zero, the amount of carbon being put into the atmosphere is EQUAL to the carbon being absorbed by nature. Imagine a 5 lb bag of rice. Now imagine we add one cup of rice to it for 30 years, each year decreasing the amount of rice by a random amount. When we come to the final year, we no longer add rice to the bag but it's a lot heavier. Sometime in the distant past, that bag of rice was at a manageable 3 pounds. Net-zero by 2050 didn't decrease the amount of rice in our bag it only decreased the rate at which we were filling it. When 2050 comes around the burden is going to be unmanageable and that bag of rice will be 6,7, who knows 8 pounds heavier. The erroneous lie we've all been told is the Climate Emergency Plan Portland has come up with will meet or exceed the most ambitious targets in the world. It won't.
