The bros at the PPA have quashed body cams in the past. Mayor Ted will likely bow to whatever the cops ultimately agree to — which so far has been, "We want first review of all body cam recordings BEFORE we make any report on police actions." As the Merc reports, "Like [Commissioner JoAnn] Hardesty, DOJ attorneys don't support a body camera policy that gives police a precedent to review camera footage prior to making a report." Portland Police lag far behind similarly sized cities in implementing body cams. Why? Cuz cops in this town like doing dirt on the down-low. Watch the PPA and Reedy Ted flail on this issue. Oh, and how's that independent citizen oversight body we all voted for coming along? Or the "investigation" into PPB's false hit-and-run call against Hardesty and PPA's complicity?
