All this stuff in another rant about bridges got me to thinking, and I have a question...

There's a rail line running from the south waterfront down along the river, tying into lines running through Lake Oswego and Lake Grove, over to Milwaukie, to Tigard, Tualatin, Beaverton, Wilsonville...

Why the fuck isn't it being used to move people?

How much was spent, by our political masters, scheming and promoting and campaigning so that we could ultimately vote to NOT tear up Barbur to extend MAX to south of here (what was it Bridgeport ...?) ?

All while a rail line was already in place? Really?

Now I know, or at least strongly suspect, that the billionaires of Lake Oswego and the impoverished millionaires along the river in Dunthorpe might object to mass transit in their "neighborhood" and all, but so the fuck what?

The rail line has existed in its current location for about as long as Dunthorpe has been Dunthorpe, Lake Oswego has been LO, Tigard has been Tigard. It was used to service BP John furniture with actual frieght trains for decades. It's still used in LO, frieght trains included.

Why doesn't METRO grab it, or at least grab the ability to share all or part of it for the benefit of us? They forced Union Pacific or some such into accommodating them regarding MAX along I-84.

Why not here?
