I am sorry this happened to you. Finding employment when there are supposedly many jobs available should be easy and yet the opposite seems to be true (my guess is the employers complaining about no one wanting to work for them simply don't want to pay enough to get people to work for them). I know so many people trying to find work right now (all over the country, not just in Oregon).

Sadly, there are no grown ups. Despite the law, employers do as much as they can get away with and the can get away with a lot these days. You can file a complaint with the Department of Justice (they handle Americans with Disabilities Act violations). You can report the incident to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. You can call the ACLU and see if they are willing to help. You can go public and use the media (if you are that motivated and can handle whatever fallout may happen).

Whether or not to fight back is a personal decision.

I say this as a former employee of Amazon (assistant marketing manager in Seattle) who got fired when I got sick (still did my job, but used my PTO for all of my doctors' appointments). I refused to quit when my manager (who was basically a teenager) told me I should quit my job (which again, was getting done just fine until I refused to quit).

I was given an impossible "performance improvement plan" to complete (that's their method of operation - they PIP you and then you fail and then they fire you "for cause" and on your way out the door they make you sign paperwork stating you won't sue and they'll give you x amount of money). They also eliminate whatever position you had (in my case they took my job and made it two jobs - project manager jobs), as another way to cover their asses.

I had witnessed a manager who was in her 60s and disabled get fired after working there for 10 years try to sue them and she lost because Amazon has more money than the rest of the world and more lawyers than anyone can comprehend.

I knew I wasn't going to be able to sue Amazon and win. I also did not know what illness I had at the time, believed I would be dead in two years, and could not fathom spending the last of my life in a court battle with Amazon.

I am just one in an enormous cohort of people abused by Amazon. They treat people like shit and they don't give a fuck at all. The publicity they have received on their mistreatment of employees is not even the a fraction of what really goes on there and as bad as the white collar workers have it, the warehouse and delivery people have it so much worse. We're talking deaths.

Maybe BOLI (Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries) can help you.

If you cant get a job now, you never could.
