It's easy to hate because it's so much less risky. Why don't you tell us a few of the things you like? I'd be happy to pick them apart and tell you what a stupid asshole you are for liking them.
I've heard a lot of theories on how Mad Men will end but it's been such a well written show all the way through (with very little shark jumping up until now) i expect the wrap up will be as focused and organic as always.
Here's the direction i hope we see for the end:
Walter White should not die. The lynchpin of the trajectory
of Breaking Bad is that Walter survives. He had to become heisenberg to survive. Maybe he should lose everything to burn out the heisenberg inside him. And leave an empty shell at the end but then end with a different crisis that seemingly sets him off in a different survival mode that would be the end. The series really ended when gus fring was defeated but the series went on because Walter White never truly escapes. The finale will have to end with his brother in law (the "good guy") dueling it out with Walter but Walter must win that one. If you have watched the series from the beginning you see the change from a harmless wouldnt hurt a fly wallflower to the ultimate bad ass. That must include killing a sympathetic character who is likeable and trustworthy. In fact that has to happen with extreme vengeance in a fiery cataclysm that wipes out everybody else walt has ever cared about including his son.
i am so looking forward to this. ITS GOING TO BE GOOD. Just dont jump the shark baby.
Mad Men:
Similiarly to Breaking bad the rest of the charactter in the series besides Don Draper dont really matter. That series has to involve Don Draper being victorious in the end but not with his demons rather with some other force that must arise against him. Given the series love for timeframe drama it will probably be some force that is specific to the time in which Don lives. (I hope he doesnt get aids or something that would be sharky) The other characters other than Roger Sterling who actually has life in his portrayal can all die or end up doing something stupid. The series is all about Don. Lets face it, its audience is a perfect blend of women and men because men watch to be like Don and have any women they want and all the style that seems to have disappered. Women watch it because they like the styles of a bygone era when woman were not such feminists. And of course they probably dig don draper. The series needs to wrap up quickly because it really isnt suited for the 70's but all the elements are there for an interesting diaspora within Dons world. Cant wait for this one either. Will be heavily invested in AMC over the next 12 months!
Walking Dead sucks enormously, I agree, but really, who cares? I don;t respect anyone more or less for having the taste to like or not like these shows. they're entertainment. Fuck it.
Can you please tell me what you're watching? I kind of thought that Breaking Bad and Walking Dead were some of the best programming currently available, and I have watched a LOT of television. The TV well has run dry for me, so please, share your wise wisdom oh wise one! What in the fuck awesome shit are you watching???
Walt kills Jesse to save himself. Only natural ending. Old kills young to stave off inevitable death, and death of innocence is complete. Or flip it and force Jesse to kill Walt (to save himself from Walt's attempt), and make that narrative switch to Jesse, the Son of Chaos-that-seeks-more, stuck in the whatever-happens-next, without his mentor or even a sweet memory of it because of the bitter end. It's good TV and good acting and lots of fun. But admittedly I'd kickstartribute to a one man show called "untitled Bryan Cranston storytelling while picking his toenails and ear wax project". The story is pretty simple because that way they could get the maximal number of seasons by stretching the middle. A different set of writers could turn it and make it about Skyler but... that's not happening, sorry feminism! She turned out to be a vagina setpiece and a bit of a refrigerator girlfriend, since none of their reconciliations have been anything meaningful or real, she's just a photograph of youthful lust, also-- child caretaker.
Mad Men I am less enthusiastic about. It's good but I never miss it when it's gone and I never wonder what those characters are up to when I'm not dragged through another compromise hatefuck in their slurry of horrible days. Ever wonder "What would Lane think of these events?" except when a still-living character yells, out loud "What would Lane think about these events?" I sure as shit don't. And when asked to I think... I dunno "Whoa so super broke." Or "Jane, I think I really have a shot there" which is what he was thinkin' the last time anything meaningful moved forward in the story.
Also, I consider Jane walking them up to the "new floor" and opening up the doors to be Mad Men's version of when Gunn gets shown the White Room at Wolfram and Hart and gets to pick the form of the conduit. A teasing promise at a trite but possibly delicious dessert of story that ends up being a short walk to a stale shortbread cookie.
