Way to generalize a half million people based on an extremely small sample size. I'm third generation portland native and I'll tell you whatever I think you should here. You should take your own advice and say this to those people you meet that act how you describe and keep your sweeping generalizations to yourself. They are never right and just make you look stupid to me. Portland is a city and thus acts in no specific manner at all or do you think the city just bottles it all in and broods quietly. I'd be happy to say this to your face but alas your hiding behind anonymity and calling people scared of confrontation.
I'm really thinking that perhaps you could quite possibly opt for a choice in writing style that just might be perceived as less than I would say indirect, less as I would say passively voiced type of written language and words to that effect that might be interpreted as more of a rather direct type of communication style which would probably I think most likely, honestly be perceived and interpreted perhaps more in line and would less belie the main portion or point of the actual post that you have written out for us all to read and digest and learn from. Thanks, bye see you later ok cool then good, peace out. :)
as i sit reading this in what normally is a quiet cafe i can barely concentrate as the horde of foreign nationals yap in their native tongue at 120 dB less than 3 feet away. i'm about to explode in a right wing, red state south of the mason dixon line 50 megaton mushroom cloud of rage. hey, this here rant would't be a bad IA!
