What exactly is "the Northwestern dream?" Is this based on some Portlandia sketch?
What I don't understand is why people keep coming here. Really, this city looks more and more like every other gentrified city in the country. I've been to L.A, S.F and D.c over the past few years to visit and the 'new; i.e. gentrified neighborhoods look virtually identicle to Nw 21st, the Pearl and what's happening to virtually every neighborhood in the city. So, again, why move here?
Cities are turning into what used to be the suburbs. The same people who would have never moved into a city ten yers ago are now claiming city core's as their own, claiming that they have GOOD JOBS and, therefore, know what's best for those stupid working class and minority populations. These selfsame, dime-a-dozen, bland, entitled and laregley white populations go on to make formerly diversive and singular neighborhoods into places where they feel more comfortable i.e Growlers (the dumbest fucking trend I've seen out of many of Portland's stupid fucking trends) wine bars, Whole Foods, chain designer clothing shops, and, of course, Subways, and succeed in making these harmless, homogoneous safe zones so they can 'find thesemselves, play a ukelele or whatever the fuck else.
You know what, life is full of disappointment. My 'Northwestern Dream' was cheap rent and the possibility of buying a house one day. I know, I know, I'm one of those shitty working class people who only work 40-50 hrs a week working jobs that aren't 'GOOD' in the eyes of entitled yuppies like these but this used to be a city, or really a country, where if you worked hard enough things like that might happen. Now, because of people like this, that has changed, and what was formerly a city where people were largely friendly to one another and was an interesting, creative place to live is now a city where hardowrking people like me are constantly anxious about rent while privelged people like this are upset because someone was a meanie to them.

Short answer: smarter people than you have found a way to earn more money than you and now they want what you have. So we are buying up your precious city and kicking you out and you are too poor and powerless to do anything other than whine about it. Enjoy Missouri, I'm done with it.

Byyyyyyyyye! You are a self righteous prick and I doubt seriously that you will espouse your fucked up belief in Social Darwinism when someone smarter and richer than you comes in and takes YOUR shit. I only wish I could be there to see you whine.

I've lived my entire 34 years in the Northwest and had no idea that I was "living the dream." Hot damn, I can't wait to tell my underemployed, underpaid friends this news!

baculumcranium

I own "my shit." That's the secret to this whole mess. Ownership. I'm not actually smart or rich. If someone smarter or richer than me wants to take my shit, they will owe my about 150k (currently) more than I paid the guy from whom I took said shit in 2010.

Kind of shuts you the fuck up, doesn't it?

Don't worry I, Anon; we have been emboldened and will say it to your face now too, take your lifestyle tourism somewhere else. We know you aren't staying as you haven't bothered to change your plates for months and months. We know you have the money, you tell us about it all the time.

Buhbyyyyyyeee. Child, it does not shut me the fuck up. Though, admittedly not smart, you seem savvy enough to navigate I, Anonymous and should be aware that the Mercury decides when this nonsense ends. In the interium I will proceed. 150K? Wow, easy Rockefeller. Such class throwing around numbers. Is that what you say to the ladies on Ok, cupid/tinder or whatever the fuck websites socially stunted fucktards like you peddle their wares? Enjoy, your pot 'o gold (as measly as it is). With your new found wealth and prosperity you could do so much good in the world if you could only pause briefly from sucking your own puny cock.

"Was it the conversations I had with my mom on the porch, when she stopped worrying about cancer long enough to come see me?"

Wow.

"Now we are displaced, our home is being rented by someone much worse".

Worst than you? Not possible. By the way, was that your little plan of revenge on the neighbors?

After reading your childish rant, I'm assuming that your neighbors rejected you after listening to what came out of your mouth and witnessing your behavior. Face it - they didn't like you and wanted NO part of you and your aberrant, self centered personality. You're angry because your former neighbors didn't welcome you wholeheartedly? That was the deal breaker for you?

Grow up, little girl.

Wow the comments never cease to amaze.

Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others!

And let's keep our mutual hated free-range, cruelty-free, non-GMO and fair trade.

You're renting a house so obviously not settling down. Why not enjoy the freedom of living like a nomad for a while? I did it for many years and had lots of fun. Lived with some crazy house mates, some are still life long friends others are unbelievable stories I can tell when I'm old. All of it interesting and yes I'll say it, character building. Live in a basement, live on a house boat, live in Gresham, why do you have to stick to the regimented coolness that so many feel is the only way to fit in? The real problem is the fact that this country was founded on the same mean spirit that you are espousing, "...rip this city from your hands". When are we all going to wake up and learn to take care of the land and not treat it like a luxury accessory to flaunt our wealth or look down on others who don't 'own' property? Until that attitude changes we should nickname all U.S. towns Rip City.

Please wait...
