I see this Oregon Trail Card used at stores all the time and I was just curious to know what it's for... Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Googled it then laughed. The home screen is a woman with a child in the grocery cart picking out apples. HAHAHA. Now I've seen this card used a few times, but I've NEVER seen apples purchased. The most common purchase is donuts, chips, soda and microwavable meat products. Food plays a major part in health and happiness. Maybe the SNAP program is not living up to potential? Maybe the card should have restrictions like - Only used at Farmer Markets. Portland has a ton of Farmer Markets. Those who have SNAP cards can find healthier, less expensive food options while giving back to local businesses versus 5 boxes of Cola on tax dollars
