How many felons are caught with guns? What's the Multnomah County DA's successful prosecution rate for such offenses? Tell me that number before you expect my buy-in.

2

Worthless. As usual. Nothing we can do. Just accept how we choose to live.

It's always nice to see the "we shouldn't outlaw crime because criminals will do it any way" crowd represented.

Where would our society be without them?

This idea has my vote by the way. And it should definitely also apply to Law Enforcement weapon discharges.

Do you really think violence should be criminalized? What about my freedoms?

This suggestion is a very slippery slope to the most minimal basic functions of a society.

No other country on the face of this earth has a daily mass shooting or the sheer number of gun deaths that this country does. Laws that restrict the ownership and use of firearms work. Literally every other country in the world PROVES IT. The constant mantra that nothing can be done in this country about guns is 100% horseshit. And until we stop the flow of billions (total) into the pockets of politicians in this country from the NRA and the gun lobby nothing WILL be done. But please, enough of the there is nothing that can be done because the rest of the world has done it and it works.

Five years?
Ahhh...no.
As it is, doing what you describe will earn the offender a felony conviction (unlawful use) and ban them from ever possessing a firearm or related paraphernalia. Forever, as in never again.
Now if the consequences for violating that had real teeth, so much the better.

Please wait...

and remember to be decent to everyone
all of the time.
