I know there are a lot of people out there who are starting to realize something wrong happen and are wrestling with themselves about how to resolve two or more conflicting perspectives on reality. Luckily, there is an easy explanation to help you all resolve this conflict in yourself. You need to acknowledge that people lie. People lie to you all the time. In fact, there is a common conception that many people in the politics and lobbying industry lie frequently as part of their vocation. Sometimes it's a simple stretching of truth, sometimes it's more elaborate and involves the creation of false documents, sometimes it involves recruiting people to help them with their lie, but it happens. You're likely an adult, you should be aware of this by now. I can recognize the urge to want to believe those people who are telling you things you want to hear or that conform to your personal biases and worldview, but even people who look like us, act like us, and provide us with material or social benefits are capable of lying to us. Of course, not every lie is treason or some capital offense, but you'll notice the charming and most pathological liars often leave a trail of cognitive dissonance around them. If you are feeling confused and overwhelmed, try to give yourself the opportunity to step back and examine the measurable objective reality of things. And remember everybody plays the fool, sometimes.
