On October 10, 2024 I was about to cross SW 5th and Market. The white hand was lit and a car instantly made a right hand turn as I was about to step off the sidewalk. That's legal but is it right? Furthermore, The driver didn't stop there with the ignorance of me, the pedestrian. The driver made a tight u-turn and drove up onto the bike section of the sidewalk forcing me to abandon where I was "safely" standing on the sidewalk, became scared, and raced behind a tree. The driver never was aware that I existed or the fact that their car could have injured or killed me. Or were they? But the driver then sat behind the red light. So they knew not to go through a red light but nothing about what their car coming at a stranger might feel like especially when it seemed as if coming at me would end and were concerned only about finishing the u-turn. Yes, this was an extreme case but I'm angry that it's not a one-off experience between myself and others with drivers feeling like we do not matter at all. The amount of people behind a car with ignorance is too high a number to count. I'm sick of it. Please make everyone you know stop their ignorance around what pedestrians and bicyclists have to deal with on a daily basis. It's not good for our stress levels and that will kill us in the long run if the cars do not. Thank you for taking the time to read this and let's coexist. You are important!
