Do you ever think about your spiritual life? Not religion, per se, but how your values come from a way of seeing the universe, of moralizing it by choice? Of grappling with the sacred and unknowable mysteries of being? So many people are burned out on compulsory Christianity, but the Enlightenment incinerated so many traditions that, once you enter atheism or agnosticism, you find yourself profoundly alone. No testaments, no commandments, no community, and no holidays! I’m not saying return to Christ (have you considered instead our lady Inanna?) but do you notice the absence of spiritual fulfillment? Do you feel it like a gnawing hunger? The barbarians will never understand what they have destroyed — and what we must rebuild for ourselves.
