The writers who mentioned corners and pedestrian visibility as major problems are absolutely right. I walk as often as possible, including commuting to work, and am a very careful driver when I do drive. But no matter how conscientious any driver may be, if curbside parked-vehicle buildup blocks pedestrian visibility, there will be probably continue to be accidents.

On your choice of the winning letter: I'm originally from Seattle, have lived in various cities (Austin, Dallas, Minneapolis, Washington DC and for a short time, Portland) and am now in Vancouver. They' all have two things in common - good people and idiots. Vancouver isn't Vantucky any more than Portland is Portlandia. All cities have their walking stereotypes but they're the exception, not the rule. Shirl sounds like she needs to get out of the house more.
