The best dang waterfall within an hour’s drive of Portland! Just off I-84 east of Troutdale, Multnomah Falls is a 611-foot cascading treasure that’s a very easy five-minute hike. The only downside? It’s very busy on weekends during the summer, so if you love a brisk walk, also consider the nearby Horsetail Falls, a non-strenuous 2.3-mile-round-trip hike, which is equally gorgeous. (And while you’re there, might as well check out Triple Falls, which is less than a mile away.) WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY
