The folks behind the first-ever Design Week Portland—a festival of sorts celebrating the city's culture of design across disciplines from visual, to furniture to letterpress to film to apparel running October 9-13—have been tantalizing would-be attendees with their schedule for weeks now, but today is finally the first day to register for events. But, not all of them. They'll be rolling out new events daily, in parallel with the festival's schedule. And don't let the word "register" scare your wallet; many of the events are free or at nominal cost, but space is limited. As of 9 am this morning you can sign up to see PSU Professor of Architecture Sergio Palleroni lead a discussion on youth homelessness called "Rethinking Shelter," and beginning at 11 you can get dibs on the opening night party at the Cleaners, which will surely be a competitive one to nab, with less than 150 admissions available.

Stay tuned for more tomorrow, with registrations opening throughout the day, more the day after, more the day after that, and so forth. And hey, if you've no patience for the meted-out registration game, there are some events with "register" buttons that simply lead to open Facebook event invitations, so scope the schedule to see what's available and plan your frigging life. Oh, the edification we shall have!
