Hey, I liked Highlander and Flash Gordon, why don't you fucking remake those too.

I'm not sure there's words to express my nerd rage. So I'll leave it alone. But this won't be an Evil Dead movie in anything but the name(s).

"Coming soon to a theater near you: Yellow Submarine, the timeless Beatles classic, starring THE JONAS BROTHERS!"

I guess I'll be the weirdo here:

I don't care that they're remaking Evil Dead. I don't care that they're changing everything about it. In fact, I PREFER that they change shit. All this movie needs to do in order to be worthy of the original is

a) be short
b) be brutal
c) be disgusting

That leaves a lot of room to do a lot of new, interesting shit with the premise.

The first one, tonally, has almost NOTHING to do with the following two movies. It's got more in common with what Eli Roth tries to do than what Sam Raimi ended up doing. So yeah - if Raimi/Tapert/Campbell gave their blessings to these three to take another crack at Evil Dead? I'm interested to see what it looks like.

Wouldn't it be a much more nerd-rage-inducing thing if the film was in fact a winking homage-a-thon starring some idiot 23 year old bro with a slight resemblance to Campbell?

I agree fully, Fatboy. My comment was simply intended to make light of the fact that Hollywood is entirely fucking out of ideas and, when someone presents an original idea, no one will take any sort of risk to make it happen (see: Inception), but as soon as it's popular they'll beg to make nine sequels.

I'll see this as long as it stays in Campbell's good graces. He'll be my barometer on this. Sounds like he's for it at this point.

And specifically to your last point: yes.

This sounds about 834 times better than the non-Whedon "Buffy" remake that's supposedly happening. I hope they work in a cameo for Bruce.
7
The Non-Whedon remake got shitcanned, which is good because everything that was heard about that project sounded uninspired and dry. The idea of Buffy being remade is an idea I'm perfectly okay with; It's been about 15 years since it first debuted, and it's not like anything about that "mythology" is off-limits. In fact, I'd go so far as to say there's more mediocre/bad episodes of Buffy than there are good ones. And really, the weakest character on that show WAS Buffy.

I'd be more than up for a reboot of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer as a movie series, provided the talent was good, and they had a passion for it.

@7, Buffy needs a tad more time before a reboot in my opinion. But I read the comics. So TV series Buffy still seems now and vital. I think a reboot would require either nostalgia or a new direction to capture new fans. I'm glad they shit canned the movie.

I guess I should have said above re: Evil Dead: these movies occupy a pretty special child-adolescent space for me. I think it's cool they're revisiting the world. But I see very little point in reworking the character or script. At that point it's not a remake: call it something else. Don't get me wrong, I'll see it either way. It just feels false they way they're going about it.

@Fatboy: That's good to hear. I would be okay with a reboot of Buffy-- although I read the comic as well-- but that remake sounded awful, as though they were actively trying to piss off anyone that had cared about the characters.

@Fruit Cup: I think of it less as a "remake" and more as a "re-imagining" like, say, the Marvel "Ultimate" line.

Sadly, they remake everything. Lets a least give her a chance (I can think of a lot of things I would give her a chance to do......eh, moving on).@1....they've beaten both those series and movies into the ground, its pretty much done(I assume you were'nt being sarcastic) I am a huge fan of Evil Dead, i've met Bruce twice ( very cool dude), and really I don't have an issue with this. Not so much into Buffy, although Sarah Michelle Gellar is cute (but you already knew that,mr I have her poster in my bed room nerd boy). Incidentally, that movie was horrible

Please wait...
