I don't think I've ever thought of Anderson's films as cheerful. Whimsical at times, yes, but melancholy reigns supreme. I'm not as fanatical about his films as some. To me they always seem to lack that deep emotional connection that films by say PT Anderson have, but from a pure film-making standpoint, Wes Anderson's films are always a must see.
