Mr Romo

When: Mr. Romo (aka Josh Beastie) spins downtempo, big beat, house, acid hop, and acid lounge. He calls his style "beat driven," saying, "if I call it beat driven, I can spin whatever I want." Mr. Romo spins Wednesdays at Urban Wineworks, and at a couple speakeasys called 111 and 420, which take place at undisclosed locations. Email

If you were getting paid the same either way, where would you rather spin records, a frat party or a yuppie wedding?

Probably a frat party because at least they're wild and out of control. A yuppie wedding would just be boring.

Say you're getting ready to go out for a big night of partying, what CD or record would you put on to get yourself in the mood?

I'd probably listen to some turntablism, probably Mr. Dibbs The 30th Song.

What's in heavy rotation?

Scientific American Saints of Infinity/Simulated DIY (Slabco)

Cobain vs. Coburn (Nirvana Style)

Pepe Deluxe Beatitude(Emperor Norton)

Verve Remixed 2 (Verve)

Bonobo Flutter (Ninja Tune)

What's your favorite sneaker?

Es, it's a skateboarding shoe.

Describe your dream gig?

Future Primitive Sound System is an event held in San Francisco starring DJs like Qbert, and Mix Master Mike, and they invite a certain number of DJs to spin. I'm not even sure they're doing it anymore, but it doesn't matter, 'cuz this is a dream. KATIE SHIMER
