Wizards aren't real, but I could probably be convinced that Chad VanGaalen is one. The Canadian musician/artist/genius-of-insane-proportions makes everything from screeching noise music and gentle folk songs (not to mention single-handedly turning out the kind of wackjob animation seen above). On VanGaalen's latest album for Sub Pop, the lovely Shrink Dust, angel-dust weirdness creeps its way into even the gentlest country lullaby.

Simply put: Chad VanGaalen is one-of-a-kind, and he doesn't stop through Portland nearly often enough. Luckily, he'll be here on Sunday, June 15, for a show at Mississippi Studios. Even more luckily-er, we're giving away a pair of tickets to the show! Go on over to End Hits for a lick.
