Because the Lotus has been around since the '20s, it's got a beautiful, ornately carved wooden bar with mirrors. The severed, mounted heads of unfortunate woodland animals add to that early 20th Century feel. The Card Room, located behind the main bar/restaurant, is where the actual dancing commences. It's a claustrophobic, oblong room with a cage, actually more reminiscent of a gas chamber than a dance floor. On a Sunday, the Lotus is pretty mellow and inoffensive (although the DJ interrupted Madonna's "Holiday" mid-play for some smarmy R&B number about "between the sheets," which nearly gave me a heart attack). However, I have a feeling that on busier weekend nights, a lot of unsolicited ass-touching occurs here.
