An Examination in Six Parts

COCOROSIE Here's a seventh reason. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PICTURE.

I kind of agree: I mean, I just don't like them because I think they suck as a band, not for any other reason.

I agree as well- their music is extremely derivative (the Banhart/Newsom/Bjork/Baby noise vocals) and not as original as they make themselves out to be. The pretension also bothers me a lot- the idea that if you don't like something, you don't understand it (which is a vibe I get a lot when listening to them). That said, it seems like they do have talent but they refuse to use it in a palatable way. They want their music to be misunderstood. All I know is the people who like them really like them and I think that's good. I'm voicing my opinion after having listened to the record (and their older ones) multiple times on a camping trip and there are things I like, I just can't endorse the whole thing. Background music is a good application of it.

I like their crappy music and antics. Makes my girlfriend get freaky!

Well articulated point about the use of the 'N' word. That is very offensive.

Otherwise, this article is just weird to me - 6 reasons not to like a band - an examination of their lives and influences. wtf??

You did your best to be objective, but your very own animosity for the band was thinly veiled. I don't find their music bad. Do I love every song? No, not really. But I think they get it right enough of the time that they deserve recognition. Their music is pastiche but thats what I love about it the most. Hearing all of the shifts, not only stylistic, but in tempo in "Lemonade" is kinda awe inspiring. To shift from morose piano ballad in the verse to the pre chorus with the g-funk synthesizers then to 70's horns, its sensory overload. I know its not for everyone. I just felt the need as a casual fan to be defensive for them even though I'm certain they don't care. Lets call a spade a spade. You clearly harbor a great dislike for this band and thats cool. But lets not pretend that there is even an iota of objectivity in your opinion.

haha not everyone hates cocorosie... i happen to love every song/film/painting/picture/clothing they put out. the main reason is because i looove art from the baroque era and those girls really blend art from that time with modern culture. i really don't understand how people say they're bad musicians and this article didn't point any reason in particular. how can two people who have been studying music for as long as they have and can play as many instruments as they can and have composed as progressive pieces as they have be "terrible." and as far as the nasal-y vocals go, i see it as this: freak folk artists use their voices in such a way that the recording will transcend age, gender, and humanly boundaries. this is because the content is really based on sexuality and innocence and going back to a less painful place of childhood before pain caused by sexuality. but sierra casady's voice is one of the most beautiful voices in the world. anyone who doubts this needs to hear her opera. one last note, it really isn't an art for everyone, but i'm not coming at this from an elitist place. i really think nickleback is a much worse band, but it's not because i think i don't get it, i just think its gross art.

Excuse me but everyone got his own style- what if they're women? Come on dont be stupid
