unfucking believable, yet believable
i have a sick feeling in my chest.
ugh.
2
and people wonder why there are citizens out there that are terrified of the cops?
3
Your "progressive" City government covers up and condones the PPB's thuggery again. Fuck you PPB. You disgust me. You are legally-sanctioned criminals.
4
Depressing and enraging, but not surprising. "The officers involved were within policy as it relates to their use of force in this incident" -- change them. I hope that a change in policies can also help keep individuals so inclined to such mindless violence off our police force.

The most dangerous gang in Portland wears blue and carries badges.

Being a cop is a shitty job. Nobody commenting here is willing to do it, is willing to spend their working lives dealing with that kind of shit, but they still expect those who will do it to all be exemplary citizens, cowboys in white hats. These comments are like complaining about customer service at McDonalds. Go apply, and then maybe I'll listen to your cop-bashing.
7
WTF? Why am I agreeing with Reymont?
8
Well, murder is murder under the law. Unfortunately, there seems to be an unwritten exception for police officers. There is no way around the legal analysis in this case: force applied caused death; police had no justification or excuse for use of force:: hence homicide.
9
Reymont I have a list for you.
#1 You don't really know if anyone commenting here is willing to do the job or has applied or is currently doing the job.
#2 I don't think cops need to be perfect but I do think that if there is a flaw in the system it should be corrected. They followed procedure and someone died. He didn't need to die.
#3 Shit I thought I had more to say.
#4 oh yeah. So the only people who can criticize are people who have actually done the job. Are you aware that most Americans have not been: Doctors, politicians, lawyers, programmers or a number of other things. These people DO need feedback from people who do not do they're job. They need the perspective of the people they SERVE to better their service.
#5 What makes you think anyone here gives a damn if you listen to them?

Where is the feature article on the history of union appeals of officer sanctions for ill conduct? How does it compare to other cities?
11
@Everyone - I mean, none of you are wrong, of course. Really sounds like the police here did some terrible things and should be punished.

But...I mean, my garbage man spills the trash sometimes. That really pisses me off, too. But *I'm* sure not going to do his job - yech! So I try to limit the amount of bitching and name-calling that I do when I wish he did a better job.
12
Well Reymont, when it is your brother the cops brutally kill, I'll bet you will want some accountability. And your garbage man spilling your trash does not result in the death of innocent people, so that is a really fucking shitty analogy. But you'd have to be a complete moron to think it was appropriate anyway.
13
@JFC, there is a pretty big leap from desiring police accountability to making statements such as:

"Fuck you PPB. You disgust me. You are legally-sanctioned criminals."
and
"The most dangerous gang in Portland wears blue and carries badges."

On a somewhat related note - something Matt Davis should check out is who will take the place of Capt. Eric Hendricks as head of the Traffic Division after he was seriously injured in a car accident.

It might be Lt. Mark Kruger, named Portland's Worst Cop in a Mercury poll, who has repeated instances of violence against women during protests, and who has been linked to neo-Nazis.

Please wait...
