A "Yes" Vote That Isn't, Really

Seriously, when will folks that proudly identify as "progressive" realize it can verge into retardation. From a short term standpoint, I hope Sam Adams has done his PR homework. This is a boon to keep any disenfranchised communities in his pocket for the election and make it look like he's doing something. But a million dollars and a vague plan to rectify PDX's inequities won't play long term, for those already doubtful of such efforts or those with unrealistic expectations about what such an office will do.

Hopefully the short-term will last till November 2012.

Then again, maybe equality stats will be kind in the near future. Gentrification will ultimately make this city appear more equal on paper, especially if the poor folks get pushed to other cities and counties. I did my part when I moved here and I imagine most on the Mercury staff are did theirs.
