I don't post about every non-injury car crash in Portland, but a crash occurred last night that's notable because it's the second Detroit Lions player to be involved in a crash in Portland this year. Last summer Joey Harrington was hit by a car while biking in Portland and now Ndamukong Suh has crashed his car on West Burnside. From the police:

Early this morning, Saturday December 3, 2011, at 1:15 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a single car crash into a tree at Southwest 3rd and Burnside Street in Downtown Portland.

Officers arrived found a 1970 Chevrolet Coupe that crashed into a tree. Officers learned that the driver, 24-year-old Ndamukong Suh of Portland, lost control of the car as he drove southbound on 3rd Avenue crossing Burnside and hit a curb, light pole, drinking fountain, and a tree.

Officers spoke with Suh and determined that he was not impaired and simply lost control of his vehicle. Neither Suh or his two passengers were injured in the crash and Suh was polite and cooperative with the officers. Suh's vehicle was towed from the scene and insurance information was provided to police.

Suh plays for the Detroit Lions NFL team and is a graduate of Portland's Grant High School.

It's very lucky no one was hurt—that intersection is usually full of people hitting the bars on Friday nights. How someone can lose control of their car driving on a straight road in good weather remains to be seen, I guess. For now, the report begs the important question: Did Suh destroy a Benson Bubbler?! There's one on the corner of SW 3rd and Burnside, right next to a light pole and tree.
