Saw Yglesias speak last yesterday evening at the Lotus- it was fairly interesting. He's absolutely right about Portland's highways. When biking, I often find it easier to cross the river than to cross 84. Bridges are big, obvious landmarks that transverse a large, attractive natural feature. Highway overpasses are harder to locate and oftentimes I have to compete with traffic that is already accelerating because of a nearby highway entrance. In my far-flung futurist fantasies, 84 is either gone, or buried beneath the streets in a more feasible version of the Big Dig.
The Olympics last night were interesting. The television camera's need to create drama is strange, all shoving in a little Russian girl's face like CRY COME ON CRY DO IT.
