Public defenders in Multnomah County also do not get the same benefit package. They are very very sorely underpaid.

It's also not just about what they are paid - a system that will pay more to someone whose goal is to lock someone up vs. to pay someone to prepare a sound defense is criminal in itself.

Both the PDs and the poor they defend deserve far, far better than this.
