If median income is 31000 and rent can be up to 80%, then "affordable" housing can still be 2000 a month.

Currently 100% AMI for an individual is $52k. Rent for the potential new units described in the article would be based on what is "affordable" to someone at 80% of AMI or less, with affordability defined as 30% of gross income. Based on this, if the units were to magically appear today, rents would be $1,030 or less per month, including resident-paid utilities.

This strikes me as just a foolhardy notion at appearing to care, when we all know what will happen: a chosen few will be allowed to live cheaper than the rest.
