Russell Courtier has been found guilty in the racially-motivated murder of 19-year-old Larnell Bruce outside a Gresham 7-Eleven.

Courtier, a 40-year-old member of a white supremacist group, drove his Jeep into the African-American man —who was on foot—after a brief altercation outside the 7-Eleven store on East Burnside and 188th. Bruce died from his injures sustained from the attack.

This morning, a Mutlnomah County jury found Courtier guilty of three charges: first-degree murder, intimidation (Oregon's hate crime bill) and failure to perform duties of a driver. The murder conviction carries a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years behind bars before eligibility for parole. It's unknown when Courtier will be sentenced.

Bruce's family, who have attended the extent of Courtier's week-long trial, shared audible sighs of relief after hearing the jury's verdict.

Courtier's girlfriend, Colleen Hunt, was also in the Jeep at the time and is accused of egging Courtier on, yelling “Get him, baby!” and “Run him over!”

Hunt, 37, has already pled guilty to a first-degree manslaughter charge linked to her involvement in Bruce's death. She waived a jury trial, and is expected to be sentenced later this week.
