I believe you can do better.
The mayor of Portland is not responsible for solving the homeless situation. Mercury readers know that counties and the federal government are responsible for housing, food, living expenses, psych care, and social services to homeless individuals, not the City. The City of Portland only stepped in based on citizen concerns because Multnomah County was not doing its job
We hope the Merc gets serious covering the prime-responsibility and the prime-mover for homeless solutions: Multnomah County. And we hope they inform readers on federal, state and local cash flows in to homeless individuals in relation to America's income inequality cash flows.
It's clear that the architect of Portland homeless services, Commissioner Kafoury, will run for governor to replace Governor Brown, claiming homeless project success in the campaign.
In fact, Multnomah County commissioners, lead by Chair Kafoury, are actively blocking solving the whole spectrum of homelessness solutions. The county does good work in a limited way. But those limits are not solving neighborhood concerns.
Multnomah County commissioners actively avoid the hard problems for political ambitions.
Women in politics, I support more! Taking risks to lead and communicate a vision, yes! I vote for it every time.
Side note, suggest the Merc communicate often with the ACLU on the homeless people people issue.
