"With Fish's mid-term death, Black said, she sees an opportunity"

Opportunistic, grifting asshole. Sums up Margot Black to a T. What a total piece of shit. And she needs the money, having lost her cushy teaching gig because she was too busy giving bad advice to tenants. I'm going to donate the max to every single one of her opponents, god help Portland if she gets any closer to having decision-making power in this city.

Margot Black is/was not a math professor. The word "professor" denotes a tenure-track position. A simple web search shows that Margot is/was an instructor who runs the Math Skills Center. An instructor is a non-tenure-track employee. Margot has an MS degree, not a PhD or SciD.

"...I’m principled and opened-minded."

Seriously? She literally call mom and pop landlords a bunch of racists. She has no business holding public office.

"With Fish's mid-term death, Black said, she sees an opportunity to take on Fish's unfinished work around affordable housing and "push it into the future." "

Isn't it interesting in how the meaning of a quote changes when you include all the words instead of engaging in contextomy?

She's an amazing compassionate person! She'll get my vote... And many others. Go Margot!

Another crazy "rent control" proponent, no matter how bad the unintended negative consequences have time and time again proven to be for renters. Her stance is even more shocking given that she is a former math educator.

Also, if her mother is living in a damn homeless shelter, it seems she has more pressing things to take care of (like helping her mother) than running for city office.

Whole groups of people will follow their chosen leader. Whether their choice of leader is based on integrity as most are, or competence, accurate knowledge and presentation of policy directions that become visions. Ted has not earned a 2nd term whatsoever. Chloe ruined neighborhood cohesive idealism for past generations now watching the current generation driving everywhere too fast all the time. I nominated Mark Lakeman for Mayor awhile back but his choice is better. SARAH IANNARONE - lovely lady mayor. Suck on that Ted!

I won’t vote for Margot, and I say this as an avowed socialist who has been fighting for renters for years in PDX. She is toxic and abusive and utterly unqualified to hold public office. Sure, she fights for tenants, but what happens when you decide you can no longer organize with her? She harasses you to no end, and guilts you, and pulls out every emotionally abusive trick in the book. There will be other, more progressive candidates who will fight harder and more effectively for tenants. Move along folks, nothing to see here.

I do not vote for "Advocates". They usually are single focus zealots who are on a moral crusade and the Lord help anyone who gets in the way. We need pragmatic progressives who represent everyone, realize workable solutions, and who recognize a "win-win" result as a good thing. Unfortunately I don't see many of these canidates, so it is the lesser of two evils.
