Writer Takes PDX Magazine to Court

I also worked for PDX Magazine for two years and starting with the March issue this year began to get the same story from PDX staff- accounting had cut the check but the owner wasn't coming in to sign and they didn't know when he would. This isn't the only place with issues paying writers though- the NEW Portland Restaurant Guide promised lots of great pay and assigned stories to writers and photographers then they ended up lettign all of their sales staff go and not going to press with the articles they had accepted for publication. They say they're still working on it and hope to publish online and then in print soon (they were supposed to publish in June)- I lots out on $1500 worth of pay because they haven't published but I did all the work and it was accepted by the Editor and I was told the pieces were great! Money mismanagement by the publisher- a fledgling local real estate agent is the reason why. I wonder what the advertisers got for their trouble? This would be another great story. Check out their sham site at portlandrestaurantguide.com that makes it look as though they are already a magazine in print.
