City Wants Malt Liquor out of Downtown

"Oregon craft brews would be exempt from the ban."

Well at least the homeless winos downtown can still enjoy a nice Mirror Pond Pale Ale.

"The current booze ban plan involves asking the central city's 68 bodegas and grocery stores to join an association dubbed "VIBRANT PDX." "

We have bodegas in Portland? Are these run by our large Puerto Rican population?

Amanda Fritz has jumped the tracks on this one. It's plainly obvious that this is their new approach to pushing the homeless out of downtown since they got constitutionally bytch slapped on the Sit Lie ordinance. This simply makes the city look even more like the incompetent morons that they continue to demonstrate they are, let alone what a blatant example of just how badly they pander to the PBA and the Pearly Whites.

In fact, this doesn't even pass the logic test. So, I can't have my 40oz of Colt 45, I guess I'll just buy a six pack of lower percent beer instead and drink more of it and reach the same level of intoxication. Or I'll just hop over the bridge to pick up my poison. Or you could even argue that if they can't get a 40oz would they then just buy some meth? This has nothing to do with public drunkenness and everything to do with the gentrification of downtown that this City Council continues to perpetuate.

They most likely consider downtown mostly SW Portland and not the very nearby Pearl District. The Pearl by far has the best liquor store hours with their liquor stores being open 12 hours a day and all day Sunday. The rest of Portland usually has to rush back after a normal 9-5 work day or purchase liquor during our lunch hour (if possible) with liquor stores being closed on the Lord's Day (Liquor stores are all closed on Sunday for NE and SE Pprtland). Maybe it's just me but this seems to favor the rich- those who can afford to live in the upscale Pearl District should of course be allowed to purchase liquor at their leisure; whereas those with a median income should have their liquor consumption curbed by having more restrictive hours with liquor stores being open 25-30 hours less a week.

Anyhow if you are downtown and need a 40oz just wander over Whole Foods or somewhere in the Pearl. Since this is being aimed at the homeless, they should en masse wander over to the Pearl where the money, box wine, and late liquor stores hours are.

This article is missing some very important facts
1.Other than single 24oz and larger ban the proposal wants to ban 16oz. 6-pack sales no matter what brand
2. They want to dictate what price beer and wine can be sold at. Of coarse it would be a very high price.
3. They will allow boutique stores in hotels to sell wines that are normally sold now at all stores.

There are more restrictions that truly impact the free enterprise business system we all enjoy.

For such important items that I have added here , you would think that Amanda Fritz and
Theresa Marchetti 503-823-3092 the coordinator of this very unfair discriminatory proposal
would have corrected this article by typing in the whole proposal.

Maybe everyone needs to know what is really going on.
