I went to a meeting about the CRC the other evening - and yes it is a marketing presentation. when I asked about a proposed route " Does that mean I will have to drive 6 miles to Hayden Island instead of 2?" and not get a real reply - I wonder how this project measures "environmental impact." My now 2 mile drive to the Island or Kenton will be lengthy and circuitous. Put me in the category of no new bridge.
I went to one of CRC's "marketing" meetings the other night as I am in a very impacted neighborhood. The newly proposed route for me to get to either Kenton or Hayden Island will be a round trip of 10-12 miles when today it is about 4 miles. And this passes environmental impact just how? [And Hayden Island will be an ugly mess with overhead lanes.]
And as for other worsening bottlenecks such as at the Rose Quarter - we hear that's outside their project scope.

I hate to be a ninny, but consulting is a job. The more consultants you pay, the more they spend. Although I don't feel this article is pushing this agenda, why is a government job better than a private job?
Ha! lynndorman, having wanted to conduct the environmental assessment for Hayden Island, and been denied that opportunity, I can say for sure they had a clear understanding of what the results of their assessment were going to be, before they even selected the contractor to conduct the assessment. In other words, they aren't looking at the environmental impact... at all.
I certainly agree about the "marketing" aspect of the project. They have decided to completely gut the Hayden Island Plan in order to cost cut, which includes removing the only grocery store and pharmacy on an island filled with seniors, many of whom can't drive. I have been opposing the lack of transparency and deal making on this bridge for a while. Read this post on my web site: http://www.edforpdx.com/cms/?q=node/7

I agree with "revphil", it has gone beyond bizzare.

Sarah, please don't repeat the PR consultant-created lie that the new design is a ten-lane bridge. It's a 12 lane bridge painted to be 10 lanes, so they can wait until the political pressure is there and repaint it to 12 lanes.
