Emails Reveal How Sam Adams Shaped a Hands-Off Response to Occupy Portland

As harsh a Adams critic I can be, I applaud the Mayor for his handling of the situation so far. He has done his part.
My concern is that the 'occupy' movement itself won't allow this to continue.
When the Mayor pleads with them to withdrawl of a public street and is refused, it seems to me the protesters are asking for childish martyrdom.
To an obvious end.
Maybe today brings them to their senses - for the movement itself as well as local transit.

I'm starting to get the feeling thaty frankieb cares waaaaay more about this then the folks who're actually taking part in OCCUPY.

DamosA - they let you out already? How was the food in there? Did you get made bitch in there? Hope you're OK.
You got all my twinkles man.

I only saw one black person in all the photos. Looks like a clan rally where 99% of the people are white.
5
DamosA, hear that? OCCUPY is RACIST.

FrankieB might be making the mistake of lumping the entire protest with those that refused to clear Main Street. To quote Martin Short's character from Father of the Bride, "every party has a pooper."

I doubt it's possible to have any political protest / movement without a few bad seeds along for the ride. Luckily, they were hauled away as the majority of the protestors (who had also been calling for the "de-occupancy" of Main street) watched from the sidelines.

No matter the criticisms, this movement represents the governments interest in frankieb and every other citizen who lacks the funds to "get out of jail" free, or to employ an army of lobbyists for their minority interests.

In short, "hate on me hater, now or later, cause I'm gonna do me. That's just the way it be." Love and Democracy- nibbler83

What mistake? To the public watching TV news or reading the paper, those guys who refused to leave the street are ALL OF YOU.
The fact that even though they seemingly were heavily out-voted on leaving the street, but still refused to do so says there needs to be better control over the groups actions to me.
I'll bet those 'bad-seeds' are back amongst your ranks now with martyred stories of oppression.
You let those 'bad seeds', as you called them, dictate the actions. At least in this case.

Relying on corporate run media to be unbiased is your mistake. Along with making sweeping generalizations without bothering to do any research of your own. There are far too many intelligent discussions/articles/editorials on the internet for anyone to claim ignorance. And for the techno-phobes? Come down to a rally or to an Occupy camp and ask questions. It's not hard, it just takes getting off your duff, and participating in the discussion.

But I get how easy it must be to sit back at home and say things will never change, and that we're all a bunch of smelly trust-fund hippies searching for martyrdom. That's ok. We're protesting for democracy, even for the politically & academically lazy.

Shouldn't your target be 'corporate run media', since "99%" of the public get their news this way?
(and it does seem most of the "Occupy" across the country is targeting them, realizing this).
Does the Merc count as part of that 'Corporate Media' too, because obviously we are both using it to inform us.
Don't make assumptions about my own level of participation in causes I believe in. I'll bet that I've done alot more than you have.
Oh, we have a Republic form of democracy already - I thought the protest was over corporate greed and tax structure, mainly - with a little anger over bail-outs thrown in. (wow, just like the Tea Party there)
